David Nelson’s Early Life
On October 24, 1936, Nelson was born in New York City. He is the older son of Swedish-born Ozzie Nelson and Harriet Hilliard Nelson, who were married in the entertainment industry. Singer Ricky Nelson was David’s younger brother.
When Nelson was five, his parents relocated from Tenafly, New Jersey to Los Angeles, California. He attended Hollywood High School while juggling his education, participation on the football team, and his employment in television. He joined the Kappa Sigma fraternity and afterward attended the University of Southern California.
