His Father, Michael Shanks
Born in Vancouver, British Columbia in December 1970, Michael Garrett Shanks began his journey to the world of acting. After graduating from the University of British Columbia’s BFA Acting Program in 1994, he honed his craft with a two-year apprenticeship at the prestigious Stratford Festival in Ontario. It wasn’t long before he began making appearances in shows such as Highlander and University Hospital and the television movies A Family Divided and The Call of the Wild.
Michael Shanks is best known for his work as Dr Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG-1, the popular sci-fi series that ran for 10 seasons. But Shanks has also had an impressive career outside of the Stargate franchise, appearing in a variety of roles on both the small and big screens. Shanks has had guest-starring roles on a number of popular television series, including Andromeda, 24, Burn Notice, Smallville, Supernatural, Sanctuary, and Eureka. He’s also had lead roles in the feature films Sumuru, The Lost Treasure of the Grand Canyon, and Arctic Blast. Most recently, he starred in the Canadian thriller Faces in the Crowd and the Fox comedy The Good Guys and had a recurring role in the second season of the Netflix sci-fi series Altered Carbon. Shanks won the Leo Award for Best Lead Performance by a Male in a Dramatic Series in 2004 for his work on Stargate SG-1, and was nominated again in 2009 for the direct-to-DVD Stargate films The Ark of Truth and Continuum. He also had a cameo appearance in the pilot of the third Stargate series, Stargate Universe.
His Mother, Lexa Doig
Born on June 8th, 1973 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Lexa Doig is a Canadian actress and model of Filipino descent. With her parents holding season tickets to their local theater, Lexa was inspired to pursue acting from a young age – dropping out of high school in grade 13 to pursue a career in the industry. Her first professional job came at the age of 19 when she was cast opposite William Shatner and Greg Evigan in “TekWar”. She has since gone on to appear in several projects for both the big and small screens, including Les Nouveaux Professionnels (1998), Jungleground (1995) and Manigances (2000). She also played the lead role in Jason X (2001), the 10th Installment in the Friday the 13th series, and the title role in Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda (2000). In addition, Lexa has completed guest stints on several popular television shows, including Haute Finance (1996), Invasion Planète Terre (1997), and The Chris Isaak Show (2001). Her theatre credits include “Arsenic and Old Lace” and “Romeo and Juliet”.
