Formerly, Nelly’s husband, Jonny Ventura, was a merengue and salsa musician and bandleader from the Dominican Republic. In addition, he held the offices of vice mayor and mayor of Santo Domingo from 1994 to 1998 and from 1998 to 2002, respectively. Ventura was chosen as mayor of Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic’s capital, in 1998.
