Anson Williams was born Anson William Heimlich, on September 25, 1949, in Los Angeles, California, USA, to a Jewish family. He is the son of Rosalind (Horowitz) and Haskell “Hal” Heimlich/Heimlick. His father legally changed the spelling of the family name to “Heimlick”, unlike Anson‘s uncle, Dr. Henry Heimlich, the namesake of the Heimlich maneuver for treating choking victims. Anson is an established actor, singer, and director, best known for his role as gullible, well-intentioned singer Warren “Potsie” Weber on the television series Happy Days (1974–1984), a role for which he was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film. In 1977, he recorded and released a single, “Deeply” which peaked at #93 on the Hot 100. He also directed several episodes of the TV series 7th Heaven.

As a businessman, Anson opened the Big Al’s chain of diners in 1987 with his former “Happy Days” costar Al Molinaro. The business eventually folded. Later, he founded the cosmetics company Starmaker Products.
